2009 Recognised Volunteers

 2009 Recognised Volunteers

JUNE AWARDEE

Congratulations to Vaughan Hilton, our first Volunteer of the Year for 2009. Thank you Vaughan for all the effort you put in to hockey in the Waikato area.

Name: Vaughan Hilton

Age: over 40

Association: Waikato

What areas does this person volunteer in?
Vaughan is involved in the communication / media promotion aspect of the association.

How many hours a week does this person volunteer and in what role(s)?
Vaughan spends most all of his Saturday afternoons at the turf watching premier hockey and writing reports directly to the web (6 hours). His off site work with the web and other media would probably be about 8 hours per week.

Anyone who has been to a test or NHL game will have heard Vaughan on the PA system. A visit to our new web site www.waikatohockey.org.nz will also give you a good indication of how good Vaughan is at keeping our web site formated consistently and ensuring our administrators have access to all the web site tools to keep communications effective.

Vaughan also writes all our premier match reports and posts them on the web site and also has them published in the Waikato Times. He has established a good rapport with the staff at our local newspaper which helps with our profile. Vaughan has been keeping us all informed about the Junior Black Sticks campaign.

How long has this person been volunteering for?
Vaughan has been volunteering in our association (initially as an umpire) for approx 6 years and was a stalwart of Wellington Hockey before he moved into our region.

Why does this volunteer deserve to win this award?
Vaughan is a passionate hockey personality within Waikato Hockey. Because his roles are more behind the scenes he is not often rewarded or recognised for his work. Vaughan is one of those guys that you can ask to do anything and his first answer is yes, and then he thinks about it and fits it in. He is also completely reliable and professional in this role.

Additional to the roles he plays within the association he also assists one of the clubs with their website, setting it up from scratch and maintaining it.

We value Vaughan's contribution and would love him to receive recognition through your awards.
