Chesters Plumbing and Bathroom have teamed up with Kookaburra NZ and Hockey NZ to provide a range of FREE hockey equipment to help grow the game at the community level and provide better access for participation. The aim of this initiative is to help Grow the Game of Hockey in New Zealand and Chesters Plumbing and Bathroom have identified that a major barrier for some people to get into hockey is equipment restrictions.
Waikato Hockey was the first association to receive this generous donation of equipment when they received 46 new Hockey Sticks and 104 shin guards / mouth guards and turf shoes totaling more than $5500. Waikato Hockey Association will be utilising the donation within their rural school’s development program focusing on areas within the King Country.
Waikato Hockey Development Manager Stu Pitu said “This donation and its importance to our rural programs cannot be understated, Chester’s and Kookaburra NZ’s support will help to grow hockey within one of our value rural communities for years to come.
The next stops in this journey is going to be.
· Malvern Hockey Association where they will be using the donation to help develop a junior summer hockey tournament.
· West Coast Hockey Association where they will aim to develop new opportunities to attract new people and families into the game through free have-a-go sessions over summer With more associations coming onboard,
Hockey NZ will keep you updated as things develop.
