The match schedule for the preliminary rounds of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Hockey competition has been announced at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.
Sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the 10 competing nations for both men’s and women’s competitions are divided into two pools of five based on their FIH World Rankings.
Teams have been allocated in a snaking pattern from the top-seeded nation down to the 10th in order to evenly spread competing nations across both pools.
The New Zealand Men are joined in Pool A by trans-Tasman rivals Australia as well as Canada, South Africa and Scotland.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand Women are included in Pool B along with Australia, Scotland, Canada and Ghana.
Each team will play every other team within their pool during the preliminary round matches from April 5-11 before the top two teams in each pool advance to the semi-final and medal matches from April 12-14.
Each team will comprise a maximum of 18 athletes, with a total of 360 athletes participating the GC2018 hockey competition.
