In order to best represent hockey nationally, Hockey New Zealand calls on the support of four elected councils to share their specific expertise in five critical areas.

UMPIRES COUNCIL | The council is a group of umpires and technical officials, who are committed to assisting the New Zealand hockey community to keep pace with trends in the modern game, and to provide high quality officials to domestic tournaments. The council has been structured to deal with issues facing associations, club hockey, schools and domestic tournaments. The council consists of two parts; the Strategy Committee and the Operations Committee. |

YOUTH COUNCIL | Eight members representing primary and secondary schools meet to oversee youth hockey. Members are elected by Association and Secondary Schools nationwide. Members are elected for a period of two years and there is a clear process to ensure that a certain degree of continuity is always present within the council. |

UNIVERSITY COUNCIL | The University council oversees the development, promotion and playing of Univesity hockey. |

MASTERS COUNCIL | The council's role is to provide for, encourage and promote opportunities for continued participation in playing the sport of hockey. The Masters council is made up of nine members. |

MAORI COUNCIL | Te Kaunihera Haupoi Maori O Aotearoa, the New Zealand Maori council is made up of 11 members, eight Rohe delegates and three executives. The council's role is to oversee the coaching, development and playing of Maori hockey. |
