The Midlands stalwart started playing hockey at the age of 10 and made her debut for New Zealand in Delhi in 2005.
Kate, who has battled with cancer since 2004, admires former All Black John Kirwan as one of her favourite sportspeople. She is now a teacher in her home town of Hamilton.
