The Black Sticks Women have lost their second game in the Samsung Champions Trophy in Nottingham, England.
They came up against a determined China side which did not want to repeat its loss of a week ago to the Black Sticks Women. (The Black Sticks Women beat China 3-2 to secure third place in the Rabo Trophy on Monday, July 5 NZT).
Today, the final score was 3–1 to China, with a half time score of 2-0.
Black Sticks Women’s Coach, Mark Hager, said his team was outplayed by the world’s number three ranked team. He said his team failed to take advantage of their chances to score and equalise the result.
Charlotte Harrison scored her first Champions Trophy goal and the only one for the Black Sticks Women in this game. Her late field goal managed to put the Black Sticks on the scoreboard.
This result leaves the Black Sticks Women at the bottom of the table and boosts China to third equal position with England.
The Black Sticks Women’s next game is against Argentina, live on SKY Sport 3, Tuesday July 13 at 10.00pm.
Argentina will be looking for a win, to ensure they move up the points table as they are currently sitting in fourth place, just above New Zealand, having drawn 2-2 against Germany in today’s game.
