15 members of the 2011 Bayleys Midlands Men’s team have played representative hockey for New Zealand at some level, but one of the few who hasn’t is Dutch star Rob Reckers who joins the team in mid July. With Black Sticks Stephen Graham, Blair Hopping, Richard Petherick and Andy Hayward anchoring the back, and seven members of Midlands’ silver medal winning Under 21 team adding their pace and flair, the Bayleys Midlands Men will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in 2011. |

Capital are the reigning champs of the Challenge Shield having taken out Midlands in the final last year. 2011 sees them on their home turf with their ranks bolstered by five current Black Sticks including newly capped Matt L'Huillier who scored a drag flick hat trick on debut earlier in the year. Sean Dancer, the current New Zealand assistant coach, is leading the team again and with devastating strikers up front, a great penalty corner attack and Pontifex holding the fort at the other end, Capital would be disappointed not to be one of the teams standing at the very end. |
