“I’ve had such an amazing opportunity to develop a diverse range of creative and professional skills as a Media and Communications Intern at Hockey New Zealand, while contributing to the organisation’s online presence. I’ve gained experience in graphic design by creating lineup and full-time match graphics for social media, helping engage an audience of over 35,000 followers. Through producing hype videos, I strengthened my storytelling and video editing abilities, learning how to capture emotion and inspire both players and fans. Collaborating on initiatives like the “Fan Goal of the Year” contest helped me grow my marketing and campaign planning skills, while learning professional photography and videography pitch-side at matches taught me the importance of attention to detail and adaptability in a live sports environment. This internship has given me incredible insight into the fast-paced world of sports media and communications, allowing me to apply my university learning to real projects and contribute meaningfully to a professional team.”

“As a media and communications intern at Hockey New Zealand, I have worked on a range of projects including social media content, editing hype videos, writing media releases, and planning campaigns. A highlight from my time as an intern is when I got to create and post the “Champions” graphic to announce the Vantage Black Sticks men winning the Nation’s Cup. It was so fun to create the graphic with Bianca and then to post it when we won. This internship has given me hands-on experience in a high performance sporting environment, allowing me to apply my studies at university to real world work. Being part of the marketing and communications team has given me the opportunity to learn from professionals and to build a portfolio that will be a great demonstration of my skills and experience to future employers.”
