Purpose of Hockey New Zealand
Hockey is in our country’s sporting DNA. We’re wired for it, love it and play it for life. Across the generations the sport brings families and communities together for play and enjoyment - the hockey whānau. A truly gender equal game, hockey is alive with growth and opportunity. Hockey New Zealand (HNZ) has emerged as a leading national sports organisation - on and off the field. High world rankings for both national teams, the development of quality programmes for community sport, 80,000 participants across winter and summer, and the delivery of world-class events and tournaments all point to the increase in hockey’s profile as well as the platform for growth. We are at an exciting point in our journey where we are making our sport more accessible and more enjoyable for all.
Our Purpose at HNZ is to grow, inspire and enrich our hockey whānau.
Our Hockey Mindsets are:
• Be open
• Wellbeing and fun first
• Honour our spirit of hockey
• Excellence through tenacity and grit
• Building communities and contributing to NZ Inc
…so that more kiwis can See Hockey, Experience Hockey and Love Hockey.
Role Purpose
To lead and facilitate through our key stakeholder network the opening up of hockey to new and different communities especially that of tamariki and rangitahi participation.
Roles and Responsibilities
Utilise data and insights, including participant voice, to identify growth opportunities for hockey and influence our hockey system to implement these especially around tamariki and rangitahi.
Provide national guidance to and support the implementation of locally lead initiatives that target under represented communities participation in hockey i.e. the disability community, rainbow community, masters hockey, adult return to hockey etc
Lead national thinking on how hockey could be delivered differently to reduce our reliance on centralised, hockey owned facilities therefore increasing hockey’s accessibility.
Support national thinking on the place of indoor and Hockey 5’s and the cross over from participation to potential performance pathways for these versions of the game.
As an organisation we are thoughtfully and carefully engaging in our bi-cultural journey. New Zealand Māori Hockey is assisting us in this journey and is a key partner organisation of Hockey New Zealand. As a staff member you will be expected to engage positively with the organisations bi-cultural journey and participate in the learning, activities and opportunities that occur within it.
