NZA Men's Squad Named for 2025 Hulunbuir (Moqi) Invitational Trophy
Hockey New Zealand is pleased to announce the NZA Men’s squad selected to compete at the 2025 Hulunbuir (Moqi) International Field Hockey Invitational Trophy in China, running from 24 July to 1 August.
This exciting event presents a valuable opportunity to expose a wider group of athletes to international match play and grow the depth of the Vantage Black Sticks Men’s programme. The tournament will provide important game time for athletes not selected for the Nations Cup, those returning after time away from the national environment, or players still chasing their first cap for New Zealand.
The tour will serve as a development checkpoint for players to benchmark themselves at the international level. It also offers a chance to apply the tactical principles of the VBSM style of play in a competitive setting, with an eye on the team’s direction heading into the 2026 World Cup. Most importantly, it allows the coaching group to deliver performance feedback under pressure and identify athletes ready for the next step.
Head Coach Sam Bartholomew is looking forward to leading the group into this campaign.
“I'm very excited to lead this exciting group of players. NZA hasn't been an established programme for a long time so it's great to have a quality event to go to, to help our next tier of players bridge the gap to the VBSM side and play in a challenging overseas tournament.”
