World Cup Masters Teams Announced
Following a highly competitive selection process, Hockey New Zealand is excited to confirm our World Cup Masters Teams which will head to Europe and compete this July & August, with 16 teams named and strong depth across all age groups. Interest was at an all‑time high, with over 700 registrations, giving selectors a deep talent pool and making for some tough decisions.
The World Cup campaign began with a selection weekend hosted by North Harbour Hockey in November last year before final squads were confirmed after the Vantage National Masters Tournament which took place last week. Selectors were impressed by the standard on display, with a mix of fresh faces, returning experience and several former Black Sticks named across the teams.
National Masters Coordinator Peter Lowndes reflected on the process, saying the record number of teams and the strength of competition made for an exciting selection environment.
“It gave us a real opportunity to select very strong teams. The depth across the grades is impressive, and it’s great to see the continued growth and interest in the Masters game. With strong international participation expected, the focus now turns to the build‑up, as teams come together over the coming months to prepare.”
